The idea behind this blog is to explain to Gazette and GazetteOnline readers why we do what we do here, how decisions are made and, hopefully, to get readers more involved with their paper.

We want to hear from you. Did we screw something up? Tell us about it. Are we on the right track? We want to hear that, too.

  1. M.J. Love, DSM Says:

You ask in yesterday’s preview what we want to know about Kehoe incident (aside from info police need to protect as they gather evidence).

Can you flesh out who the family is? Stories say Michelle is pharmacy tech at University hospitals. Who is Eugene/Gene? What do they do, how might people have bumped into them in community. The rumor mill is vicious in IC now (30-something daughter lives there, reports proof that official silence fuels public fiction).

Any obvious reason why Michelle diverged from the route recommended by RandMcNally trip planner, Google driving directions, et al? Was the bridge out on the direct route, maybe flood damaged? Is Littleton a detour? Who lives in Littleton that knows the Kehoes, or is Hook N Liner Pond a regional attraction (special ducks, cool trees, Halloween display)?

The Sumner mayor’s remarks raise more questions that you’ve probably asked. So was anyone expecting them?

Because we have a lawyer in the family, we use Iowa Courts Online. What public records history does this family have (besides no “oh ohs” like drug/DUI/bankruptcy)?

What is in the water in Iowa City? How many families with young children have been harmed lately, or is our memory colored by imagination?

What precipitates much-publicized children’s deaths in Iowa? Babies in cars, tots with violent caregivers, impaired family members, it seems like Iowa has more incidents in the past couple of years than previously. Mental illness, exhaustion, pressures, distractions, substance abuse?

    Thanks for the independent coverage.
